Let’s say you are at home, being lazy, maybe reading a book or
watching a show or doing absolutely nothing. Suddenly a phone call from
your best friend saying she’s coming over and she has lots of news and
she’s bringing the wine.
It’s the end of the week, you haven’t gone to the supermarket yet and
you have next to nothing in your cupboards and fridge. What do you do?
Let’s say after searching, you only come up with a few cocktail sausages
and some sliced bread. That’s it, you have everything you need to make a
great snack, ideal to accompany beer or wine and lots of talk.
Take the sliced bread and put it on a flat surface. It’s even better if
it doesn’t have any crust. Take a rolling pin if you have or use a
heavy glass and smoothly roll on the bread to make it a little flatter
and wider. It is easier than you think.
If
you have any ketchup, mustard, mayo or something make a sauce with all
or any of these ingredients and put some on the bread. If you have any
sliced cheese, cut every slice in four and put one of the pieces on the
bread with the sauce. Now you can put a sausage on it too.
If you don’t have sliced cheese but only some grated cheese, put the sausage first on the bread and sprinkle some cheese on top.
Roll the bread with the sausage like making a tube and put it face down in a baking pan already spread with some oil.
If
you have milk, pour some in a small container and using a cooking
brush, wet the surface of the bread. If you have an egg, put in a bowl
with a few drops of water and beat it lightly and use a brush to wet the
surface of the bread. Milk and egg will help the bread take nice color
while cooking.
Preheat your oven at 180 celsius (365 fahrenheit ) and bake for about
10 minutes. You see the sausage is already pre cooked and we only want
the cheese to melt and the bread to have a nice brownish color so it
doesn’t take long.
I prefer to eat them warm but they taste equally great when at room temperature.
Your snack is ready.
